Hey, What Does That Mean?
BKN
Broken: the distance divided into parts. Ex. A
broken 200 could be 4 x 50 with 10 rest after each 50.
BPA
Best possible average: the fastest pace you can hold for the entire set.
BU
Build up: gradually increase your speed within the distance you are
swimming.
Cycle
The complete arm rotation of BOTH arms in free and back is one cycle.
Descending
Your time should get faster from the first repeat to the fourth. Ex. 12 x
100: 1-4 would mean that repeats 4, 8, 12 would be your fastest
swims.
IM
Individual Medley: the four strokes are swum in this order: fly, back,
breast, free. Ex. 200 IM is 50 Fly, 50 Back, 50 Breast, 50 Free.
LPS
Lowest possible sendoff: the lowest interval you can make on the set with
your best effort. Ex. 8 x 100 on 1:30 , averaging 1:24 for the swim. For
longer distances multiply your 100 LPS by 2, 3, or 4.
N/S
Negative split: the second half of the distance is faster than the first
half.
Sendoff
Time interval for repeating a given distance. Ex. 10 50s on a sendoff of
1 min means you start every 50 after exactly 1 min, no matter how fast
you swim (swim + rest = 1 min).
