Welcome Swimmers
Welcome to the Davis Aquatic Masters (DAM), a Davis, California swim team that is one of the largest U.S. Masters Swim affiliates in the nation.
DAM boasts a membership of some 600 people from all ages and walks of life. DAM members range in experience from beginning swimmers to world champions. Member ages range from the minimum of 18 to those in their 80s.
The organization is dedicated to:
Providing opportunities for masters to swim at hours and locations convenient for members;
Introducing beginners to strokes, language used to describe workout sequences and more in a friendly setting;
Continuing education to improve strokes and swimming efficiency with instruction by crack professional coaches;
Competing in local, regional and national races, including the DAM-sponsored Lake Berryessa Open Water and the Brut Squad events;
Engaging in education projects that promote swimming as a way to stay healthy and live longer.
The dues for 2009 are $44 for regular membership and $39 for Senior members (those over 65). All new members are required to sign up for the Direct Deposit system. Visiting Davis? Drop in at a DAM workout. Guest fee is only $5.
July 4th Holiday Schedule
This the schedule for Friday, July 3, is as follows:
Workouts at Civic pool are 7 a.m., 8 a.m., 9 a.m., 10 a.m. and 11 a.m. ONLY. There will be NO ARROYO WORKOUTS and NO EVENING WORKOUTS at Civic on Friday.
Saturday, July 4th , is the normal schedule of 7:30-8:30 a.m. and 8:30-10 a.m. workouts at Civic, followed by lap swimming from 10 a.m. to 1.p.m.
Annual DAM BBQ Will be Held July 18 at Central Park
DAM's annual BBQ in the Park is set for Saturday, July 18, 2009 from 4-8 p.m. in Central Park (corner B and 4th streets) . Come join your fellow lane-mates and other DAM-mates in our annual event in Park. Bring your beach chairs, frisbees, smash balls, volleyballs, soccer balls, dogs, and other loved ones to enjoy a summer evening BBQ.
DAM will supply:
alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks
BBQ condiments, plates, eating utensils, cups and ice.
Members bring what you want to grill, a side dish, appetizer or dessert to share .
Bicycle Stolen at Civic Center Pool
On Monday, June 22, 2009, a swimmer's bicycle was stolen during the 6:15 p.m. workout at Civic Pool despite being locked to the rack. If anyone saw, or ever sees, anything suspicious please let DAM know. Please take extra special precautions with your valuables while you swim; place items in your car out of site, and invest in an extra strong bike lock.
Swimming Quotes
Sometimes a picture isn't really worth a thousands words. It needs a little help. So here is a new way to enhance DAM swimming pictures. It's called "Swimming Quotes." See one of them below and more at the link.

Attention Steve Carlson Fan Club

Read All About Him in the Davis Enterprise
Be sure to read the next Davis Aquatic Masters column in the Davis Enterprise newspaper, because it will profile the achievements (past and future) of DAM swimmer Steve Carlson, who will turn 90 in August. The column will appear in the sports section on Tuesday, July 14 and will also posted on the web site after the publication date.
Lake Berryessa Swim Towels for Sale
DAM is selling Lake Berryessa towels for $20 each. You can buy two for $40. Or three for $60 (you get the idea). These full size towels come in flashy colors and are embroidered with the 2009 race logo. Here's what they look like:
New, first edition towels. See them, touch them, cuddle them, buy them at the Civic Center Pool. By the way, the towels were used as awards for the Lake Berryessa Open Water Swim top age group winners.
