Long Course Meet Records Set

Some 180 swimmers competed Aug. 13 and set a number of records at the first annual Davis Aquatic Masters long course meet at Schaal Aquatic Center on the UC-Davis campus. Although final times are still being tallied, preliminary results show that two world records were set in the 100 fly and 200 IM by Jill Hernandez, 51, of Chico. Steve Carlson, 92, of Davis set PMS records in the 50 and 100 free and 50 backstroke events. Overall, 37 DAM records were either set of tied at the event. The was DAM's first pool event the club sponsored in 30 years. DAM is, of course, well known for hosting the Lake Berryessa Open Water Swim.

One Hour Swim National Championship 2010

Someone in this crowd of DAM members swam the 1 millionth yard in the One Hour Swim National Championship at the 10 a.m. Sunday workout slot. Since they all swam at the same time, it was impossible to tell which exact swimmer logged the magic million yard. So they all shared a piece of the the prize (the donuts, of course) at the million yard celebration ceremony.

In the write-up of the results, here's what U.S. Masters had to say about DAM and top finishing clubs:

"The undisputed overall winner was yet again, Davis Aquatic Masters with 312 swimmers and total yardage of 1,084,425. Relative newcomer, Asphalt Green from New York City clearly wins the “most improved” category, as they leap-frogged into the Extra Large Team Category (227 swimmers) from the Small Team Category in 2009 (6 swimmers). That's what we like to see!"

As many know, the master's team at Alphalt Green is coached by former DAM assistant coach, Craig Keller.

Trans Tahoe Swim 2009

Yesterday, (Saturday, July 19, 2009) I swam in a 6 woman relay across Lake Tahoe.  The race is 11.5 miles and the water temp was 62 degrees.  We were very lucky as it was a beautiful, hot day yesterday in Tahoe and for the first few hours the lake was pretty smooth.  The cut-off time for the race is 6 hours and our time was, no lie, exactly 6 hours and 4.4 seconds.  I figure - close enough! For those of you who swim on DAM, my other teammates besides Liz were Megan, Tracy, Linda, and Allison.  Rod, Megan's husband, was our boat captain, and Brian, Allison's boyfriend, was our timer/cheerleader.  Max, Rod and Megan's dog, was our team mascot.  It was a great day and boy did I sleep well last night.

A word of advice. Watch these videos using a computer with a fast internet connection and processor. You will still be able to see them on a slower computer, but there will lots of frustrating pauses in the video stream.
