DAM Is Club of the Year

U.S. Masters Swimming (USMS) named Davis Aquatic Masters as its masters swim Club of the Year for 2011 Sept. 16, 2011at its national convention in Florida. The national swim group gave DAM the award for its work to increase membership, advance the sport of masters swimming and for its community service work.  DAM Head Coach Stu Kahn accepted the award on behalf of the club.

In July, DAM board members Sharon Blaha and Tom Martens wrote the application to become the club of the year.

DAM is the sixth club in America to receive this honor.

After accepting the award, Kahn said: "DAM is a veteran organization with over 500 members which, despite its size, still functions like a family. In this past year, the club ran a successful food drive, had over one third of club members volunteer take a class to become lifeguards to comply with a new safety requirement and had so many club volunteers at its Berryessa Open Water Swim that it ran out of jobs for them.

“In addition, some of the members fell in love at practice and get married,” he said. “Some of their children are now swimming with DAM.”

Craig Keller, head coach Asphalt Green Masters Team and winning team of the 2010 Club of the Year Award, congratulated DAM on receiving the award:  "It couldn't have been won by a better team." Keller was a DAM coach before moving to New York City to work at Asphalt Green.
