Editors note: There has been a bit of a scramble in the DAM editorial offices this week due to unforeseen circumstances. This week's email is being sent from a different source, so the format and presentation will be a bit different. We hope the content is still OK. As always, please contact us (reply to this email) if you have questions.

The 2021 version of DAM End-of-Summer Splash is this Sunday, August 22

You have just a few days left to join the fun at Charles Brooks Swim Center for our first official swim meet in nearly 18 months. There will be 50's and 100's of each of the strokes; medley and free relays and 200's of free and IM

Locker rooms with showers will be available, but swimmers and volunteers will need to bring their own food. Cold, bottled waters will be provided. The event will be following the current COVID-19 protection orders and guidance issued by the State of California-Health and Human Services Agency.

REGISTER to swim now! Online entries close at midnight, this Thursday, August 19. Swimmer registration will be capped at four-hours in length (approx. - 160 swimmers).

HELP SUPPORT YOUR CLUB! We sure could use another 20 more helpers.

A few more DAM volunteers are needed Saturday evening 8/21 for equipment setup (5:15-7:30pm) and most of Sunday 8/22 (7:30am to 2:30pm).

Register here on our SignUpGenius form to sign up for any of the many volunteer positions and time slots - Timers are especially needed. Shifts are roughly 1.5 to 2 hrs in length and offer both sitting and walking assignments. Note: the SignUpGenius form is the only way to sign up to volunteer. There are no separate sign up forms at the pools

DAM coaches Kate Stephenson and Owen Yancher will be present at the meet to organize relays and assist swimmers with race strategy. If you plan on swimming in the meet, please take some time to speak to them about your races!

For any help needed or questions about the event, contact Stu Kahn at kahnswim@gmail.com.

Coach Recruitment Process Underway

Over the last few weeks, the DAM Board has been actively working with our current coaching staff to ensure and maintain consistent and coherent programming. Our current staff of coaches who have stepped up to fill the demand will be diminishing in the fall. In anticipation of this, we are shifting gears to find an interim coach, or coaches, to ensure ongoing program quality and continuity. This is in addition to the efforts to replace substitute coaches who are leaving. The long-term goal is to identify and hire the head coach DAM deserves. All suggestions/recommendations are welcome as we begin the process of collecting and reviewing applications.

Civic Gym Roof Work

Beginning Monday, August 2, 2021 work began on repairing the Civic Gym roof and internal trusses.  At this point there should be little impact to the pool, locker rooms and aquatics groups. The parking lot might be a little crowded as some parking spots will be blocked off for staging of equipment and construction vehicles.

DAM COVID!

We are happy to report that our recent report of a COVID-positive has resulted in no spread to other swimmers.

But as you all know, COVID is still present in our community. We encourage all swimmers to use the free, saliva-based asymptomatic testing program offered by Healthy Davis Together. If you have a positive test result, we encourage you to share that information with us, along with the days and times you swam so that we can contact your fellow swimmers.

Attention Lap Swimmers!

Remember, the current schedule for open lap swim on the weekends are (3 1-hour sessions both days):
