Weekly Team Email: Monday March 13, 2017
From the Health section of TIME on March 2, 2017 we find this video extolling the benefits of our great sport.
What's even more interesting is seeing one of our own DAM members at about the 7 second mark and then a group shot of DAM freestylers at the 34 second mark. Both snippets come from two DAM videos shot in 2013 by Peter Fuzard at Arroyo pool.
Cal Aquatics Spring Meet - March 19
This annual meet will be held this Sunday at beautiful Spieker Pool in Berkeley. There are eight lanes for the races and ten for warm-ups. The meet features thirty events, starting at 8:30 am and ending mid-afternoon. Free t-shirts (available in both men's and women's styles) will be given to the first 275 people who enter. Information and registration.
Pacific Masters SCY Championships – April 7-9
The annual short course yards (scy) meet will be again held at the Soda Swim Center on the campus of Campolindo HS in Moraga. One major change from last year is still in effect. In an effort to attract more participants to the Championship meets, the event scoring has been increased from the top 10 finishers to the top 20. Ribbons will be presented to the top 8 finishers. DAM will enter and pay for relays on all three days of the meet. The online entry due date is Wednesday, March 29. Registration and meet information are now available. Online entry fees: $18 for one event, $38 for 2-4 events, and $43 for 5-7 events.
DAM Time Trials
In preparation for the LMSC Champs in April, we'll host a team Time Trials on Sunday, March 26, from 1pm to 3pm at Arroyo Pool. Gates will open at 12:00pm for setup and warmups. Times swum at this event will count towards team records and entry into the Pacific Masters Champs (April 7-9). Volunteers timers are needed and will be fed lunch during the event. DAM will supply timing supplies and sun/rain canopies. The meet will be held rain or shine. Events offered are the 50's, 100's and 200's of each stroke. In addition, the 500 free and 400 IM will also be swum. The meet should last over an hour so plan on spacing your swims over the duration. Swimmers must fill out event entry cards upon arrival for each race they intend to swim.
USMS Nationals - April 27-30. The short course championships will be held in Riverside at a new, state-of-the-art, community college, facility. Final online entries are due on March 27. Information, and registration.
If you're participating in the March 30/30, please let Leslie Westergaard (email@example.com) know this week. Next Monday we'll publish a list of the competitors so the rest of the team can offer encouragement over the last half of the month. In order to receive the 5 Grand Prix points, you must register with Leslie this week.
