USMS Nationals in Riverside - The DAM Wrap-up
In number of athletes entered (28 out of 2,043), our club went into the meet as the 16th largest team. Due to some unforeseen circumstances, the squad was reduced to 23 swimmers by the end of the meet, yet still finished in 21st place with 294 points in what was arguably the fastest yards meet in USMS history. Twenty-two Olympians, ages 28-83, were part of the event. Just finishing in the Top 10 to score points and earn a medal was a huge accomplishment and an honor. Over 60 National Records were set, including one by our own Andy McPherson (70) in the 100 IM with a time of 1:04.77. Andy also set two other Pacific Masters records in the 100 free (56.43) and the 100 fly (1:02.96). Overall, Andy won five events and was joined by our other national champion, Jenny Mohn (25) who took the title in the 1650 free with a time of 19:20.22.
Andy was our men's high point leader at the meet with 64 individual points and Leslie Westergaard (74) was the top female point-getter with 32. The other DAM swimmers and their individual points are: Jenny Mohn (15), Jackie Chow (1), Jane Russell (24), Mary Kahn (1), Cecily Sprouse (16), Alex May (25), Steffen Docken (5), Matt Roper (29), Kevin Waterson (2), SamMcAdam (4), Mark Evans (4), Gary Swenor (7), Greg Johnson (7), Stu Kahn (9), Robert Norris (16) and Mark Braly (12).
