Civic Pool Heater - A watched pot never boils...

Maybe not the best cliche to use here, as our pool heater is unlikely to ever boil the pool water, but the heater saga continues. It shouldn't surprise anyone that the Civic Pool Heater has not failed as planned...yet. Indeed, now that it has been placed on "failure watch", the beleaguered little heater has become a survivor, a warrior, unwilling to give up. Good on you, little heater, but just fail already!

Once the heater fails, a repair process will begin, which may take 3-4 days, possibly more. The pool will become too cool for swimming, and all daytime practices will be moved to Arroyo Pool for the duration of the repair (and pool reheating). Unfortunately, there is no evening space at any other City pool in which to relocate our 6:15pm swimmers, and those practices will be cancelled during the repair period. DAM will notify all swimmers by email and update the website when this occurs.

Arroyo is an 8-lane pool located at 2000 Shasta Dr, in west Davis. The locker rooms are not heated  but the showers are. While at Arroyo, please follow the same Covid guidance options as at Civic.

New Board Member and HC Search Committee

The board has selected Pat Quinn to the board seat vacated by Kate Stephenson, who recently stepped down. Special thanks go to members Tom Frankel and Andy MacPherson, who also offered to serve on the board.
The board wishes to thank Kate for her service on the DAM board. Kate provided invaluable service to the board and to DAM throughout her term, and her presence on the board will be missed.
The board has also chosen seven members to serve on our Head Coach Search committee. Those members are Joan Crow, Rose Cholewinski, Tony Christo, David DeYoung, Diane Barrett, Mary Kahn, and Liz Applegate. They've got a big job ahead of them, so please offer your encouragement (and maybe your $0.02) when you see them!

2022 USMS One Hour Swim Championships

At nearly the end of the final day of competition, DAM holds a very slight lead over NEM for the National Title. Here are the current totals as of 3:15pm (PST) and the final club standings for the past three years. Unfortunately for NEM, their region is experiencing the effects of a particularly strong winter storm and pools are rather inaccessible. Fortunately for DAM, the OHS does not come during fire season!

THANK YOU to all of you OHS'ers for participating in this year's big event. What a great team effort, especially today.
Remember entries are due by the close of Weds, Feb 2. Enter online here.

Update your Emergency Contact Info

DAM maintains a listing of emergency contact information for all members. This information is needed should an emergency arise involving a swimmer at a DAM practice, and we encourage all members to keep their information current.
We haven't updated this information in a while, and a lot has changed since we last did. First and foremost, we have migrated our backoffice operations, including our member database, website, and email tools, to a new platform. This migration will help DAM communicate more effectively with our members, keep our website up-to-date, and will streamline some of the mundane tasks required to keep an organization of 500+ members running smoothly.
To get started, you'll need to create a password to access your "DAM profile":
Create a DAM password
Now that you have a password, you can edit your profile at any time (but we'd like you to do it now;). You can do it from the profile link at the top of the website, or by clicking this button:
Update my DAM profile
WAIT A MINUTE! Was that a new website? Not quite, but you will probably notice some changes to the DAM website. In our migration, we updated and corrected outdated information, and added some new features. Please take a look and let us know what you think, or if you find any mistakes or omissions. We'll tell you more about the new site in weeks to come.

Finally, we will send next week's Monday Message from the new system. Actually, we'll send two emails - the actual Monday Message, and a short companion message from our old email service (mailchimp.com). The short message will be a reminder to look for the actual message - in case your email provider identifies the new email as spam. Please be patient, and look for TWO EMAILS next week.

Brute Squad - Results, Gear is Here, LAST CHANCE TO ORDER!

OFFICIAL BRUTE RESULTS are nearly finalized, and will be emailed separately to all participants (look for an email from brutesquad@damfast.org). We apologize for the long delay - finalizing the results can be difficult when there are discrepancies or mistakes in entries. Our directors are trying to contact swimmers to clarify those results as soon as possible.

Your Brute Squad Gear is here! Pick up at Civic during any workout!

Last chance opportunity to order Brute Gear! The Brute Gear Store is reopened -  order Brute Gear until Saturday, Feb 5th.  When Brute Store #2 closes, it's gone for good!
