Head Coach's Message

It has been great working with so many swimmers who are open to making stroke changes. Improving your technique will make your stroke more efficient, make swimming easier, and, of course, make you faster. Who doesn’t want that?

We have been talking a lot about head position and swimming out in front. Sometimes it can be difficult to visualize drills and technique, so I have found some great YouTube videos to help. Check them out, and if you have questions, ask at your next workout. I love talking stroke technique!

Body Line Kick - This is a great drill to work on body line, head position, and low “sneaky” breaths. Keep your head down and nose in your armpit. Take fast low side breaths. Think “sips” of air, not “gulps.”

3 / 8 Drill - This is a great drill to work on the body line and breath timing. Take three strokes followed by eight kicks in a body line. Take a low sneaky breath on the third stroke. Be sure to breathe right when the opposite hand enters the water.

Katie Ledecky Freestyle - Just some inspiration from the best. This is a great example of amazing freestyle technique!

Upcoming Schedule Changes

Civic Pool 8AM and 9AM practices return!

The 8 and 9am practices at Civic on Mon/Wed/Fri will resume on Monday, August 8. This decision by the Board is to help alleviate crowded Civic conditions at the 7am and the 10am sessions.

We appreciate everyone's cooperation during this current eight-week period where DAM voided those two slots in order for the DARTS to resume their traditional summer schedule. The DART staff was very grateful for our assistance.

Long Course Schedule

Long course training (T/Th 6:00am and T/TH 6:00 pm and 7:00pm) continues at Schaal pool through Thursday, August 4

Beginning Tuesday, August 9, those practices return to Arroyo (6:00am) and Civic (6:15pm).

Summer Splash, BBQ, Pool Party, and "(Swim) Meet the Zachans"

Just two more weeks to signup!  Sunday, August 7, is approaching quickly.

  •    The Summer Splash is an intrasquad meet for DAM members only. Gates at Arroyo open at 8:00am, with warmups at 8:15 and the meet starting at 9:00am. Full details and the order of events can be found at this link.  In addition to DAM members racing, we also need DAM members timing, both of whom earn 2 Grand prix points for their efforts. Please let us know in advance if you're planning to attend as a swimmer or a timer, by signing up here at SignUp Genius. Actual event entries take place in the morning at Arroyo.
  •   The BBQ will be from 5:30-8:00pm. DAM will set up canopies, tables and BBQ's in the park just south of the pool under the trees. All members and their immediate families (kids welcome) are invited to attend. Bring a dish and your favorite beverage to share, along with whatever you would like to put on the grill for the BBQ. DAM will provide chilled waters for everyone. The BBQ is free.
  •   The Pool Party is from 6:30-8:00pm. The cost is $5.00 per person or $10 per family. As we are limited to only 200 people in the pool area, advance registration will be required and is available here on SignUp Genius. To help control squad size and to minimize non-member intrusions, we will have check-in, payment and wrist badge distribution on the lawn at the BBQ.
  •   No alcohol or glass is allowed in the pool area.
  •   We are also taking a TEAM PHOTO at 8:00 p.m. You are encouraged to wear either your 2022 Berryessa shirt or your One Hour Swim Champions shirt.
