Head Coach's Message Great job to everyone who competed in the Summer Splash! It was a super fun meet that was capped off by our own Dave Woodruff braving the 400 IM and finishing just under 6:00 to break the club record! Congrats to him and all who competed. Remember, you don’t have to be fast or experienced to compete in USMS meets. They are for all ages and abilities. If you’re looking for a fun activity, come check out a meet.
If you want some inspiration, check out the story of Willard ‘Wink’ Lamb. Last weekend he competed in the 100-104 year old category at USMS Nationals. On his first day he swam the 1500 setting a world record (there was no record for his age group meaning he is the first man in his age group to swim the 1500 free). His splits during the race also set USMS records in the 50 and 100 free as well as new world record and USMS records in the 200, 400 and 800 free. Lamb was a high school swimmer and swam one semester in college before being drafted into service during World War II. He did not return to swimming until he was 83 years old! What an amazing story. You can read more here.
Hope you all have a great week!
Coach Matt

DAM Scholarship Program Part of DAM’s Mission Statement as a non-profit entity is to promote the health and well being of the Davis Community through adult swimming programs.
During COVID, DAM began a sponsorship/scholarship program to assist members who had been financially impacted by the pandemic, and who could no longer afford to swim with our program. This program continues, and is available to assist members who experience unexpected financial hardship.
Some of our members are also financially sound, and may be looking for tax deductible charitable giving opportunities. In particular, giving in a way that allows for someone to continue the healthy and spiritually uplifting activity of swimming with DAM, and engaging in the positive culture and community of DAM. Would you like a chance to give a less fortunate team member an opportunity to stay in the program while regaining their financial footing? If so, please fill out the confidential sponsor application.
Have you or someone you know lost their job, been financially impacted by some life event that makes swimming at DAM not affordable? If so please fill out the scholarship application for a temporary fee waiver consideration.
