Head Coach's Message

MARK YOUR CALENDAR - the14th Annual Ross Yancher Brute Squad is coming up!! The event runs through the entire month of November. This is a big fundraiser for the club while also being a great way to test your endurance and bond with your teammates! Check out the specifics below…

This year we will continue to offer the Full Brute Squad, Brute Squad Lite, and Non-Competitive Brute Squad.

For the Full Brute Squad: legally swim a 200 fly, 400 IM and a 1650 free, in that order. You cannot use equipment or draft (two swimmers per lane max). You need to have someone to count and time for you (100 splits are required). You can take breaks whenever you want and for as long as you want. The time you enter will be your total time from the start of your 200 fly to the end of your 1650 free.

For the Brute Squad Lite: Swim a legal 100 fly, 200 IM and a 500 free. Other than that, the rules are the same as for the Full Brute Squad.

If you choose to swim the Non-Competetive Brute Squad (either Full or Lite), the rules are a little more relaxed. You are permitted to use equipment and swim “single arm” butterfly, but other rules (counter, no more than 2 swimmers per lane) remain the same.

Finally (and most importantly) - make sure you get credit for what you did! After you finish your Brute Squad event, enter here: 14th Annual Ross Yancher Brute Squad. When you go through the entry process, you will submit all your splits and times (those swimming the non-competitive Brute do not have to enter splits). At the end of the entry you can purchase some cool Brute swag to show off your accomplishment!

Want to help out but maybe this event isn’t for you?? No problem! You can support one (or more) of your teammates by signing up to be a timer/counter. If this sounds like something you’d be interested in, contact Lynda Yancher.

We will have more information on the Brute Squad in the coming weeks and we will continue to gear up for this event at our daily workouts. If you have any questions, let me know. You can also find more information here: 14th Annual Ross Yancher Brute Squad Event Information

Silent Auction Update

The annual Holiday Party and Business Meeting will be at 6:00pm on December 10 at the Senior Center MPR. This year we’ve inaugurated a Silent Auction fundraiser as part of the party and meeting festivities.

Our club has a wealth of gifted artists and generous supporters. If you feel called to participate in this very special event, we are reaching out to you for donations in the following categories.

  • Gift Baskets
  • Art pieces and craft work
  • Vacation homes
  • Gift coupons
  • Services
  • Sports game tickets
  • and any other creative idea that is valuable

Please consider contributing individually or by participating with your lane mates from your workout time to create a gift basket. Each of the 10 practice hours is asked to fill one or more baskets by theme (click here for common gift basket ideas). We are hoping to receive a nice variety of unique gift baskets.

The actual delivery date for selected items will be during the week of December 5.

GIFT BASKETS - Starting Monday, Oct 17 there will be boxes at Civic and Arroyo where you can drop off your gift basket proposal form using the attached form.

OTHER DONATIONS Starting Monday, Oct 17 there will also be a general donation box at each pool for other donations not assigned to a basket: art work, vacation cabins, coupons, services, etc.

All of the above donated items will require this form listing donor contact, info, a description of the proposed donation and the value of the item. Completed donation forms are due by November 11. After the deadline, and in an effort to keep raffle items at an acceptable standard and avoid duplications, the selection committee will notify approved donors of their acceptance by November 18

Donors will receive additional information about the auction and specific details regarding tax-deduction requirements after the donation period closes.

The actual delivery date for selected items will be during the week of December 5.

Nomination Period Now Open: Serve DAM by becoming a member of the Board of Directors - Application Deadline Oct 29

The board of directors will be holding elections beginning in November for 4 open positions.

Directors work on a wide variety of tasks and are responsible for administering DAM’s bylaws, polices, and procedures; attending and contributing to monthly board meetings; providing guidance and oversight of DAM’s operating budget; serving on committees; and representing the best interests of the organization. Terms are 2 years in duration. All directors must be DAM members in good standing.

If you wish to nominate a teammate, please speak with that person and ensure that they are willing to serve. You also may nominate yourself. If necessary, the board of directors will prepare the final slate of candidates.

Please submit a one paragraph statement of interest to the DAM registrar no later than Monday, November 7. Questions? Contact a board member, or the DAM registrar.

DAM Board Meeting

The next DAM Board meeting will be on Tuesday, November 8, at 6:30PM in the Brady Building.

Coach Don Veress Update

Don has completed four rounds of chemotherapy, and the results look very good! The next few weeks involve preparation for a stem cell treatment that will be performed late in November.

Don and his family are very grateful for all the support from his extended DAM family.

Lynda Yancher is still organizing meals through Don's stem cell treatment. Please contact Lynda if you're interested in delivering or sending a meal.

Thank you to all the DAM families who contributed meals over the last 2 months.
