Annual Meeting and Holiday Party

On Saturday, with nearly 100 people at the Davis Senior Center, DAM members and guests experienced another great social event and memorable evening. The very festive set-up and decorations of the room were coordinated by our event director, Judy McDonald. The evening began with a wonderful piano concert from Jan Coker, while folks simultaneously participated in our inaugural silent auction (led by Eileen Hendren) netting a club profit of nearly $4,000. An encouraging end-of-year report from President Stuart Kahn, some games and an incredible feast provided by all the attendees then followed. Important time was still taken to celebrate the many accomplishments and contributions of our volunteers and athletes.

Outgoing Board of Directors, Wendy Pratt and Greg Stoner, were recognized along with incoming board members John Yoder and Theresa Keegan. They join continuing directors Kevin Waterson, Dan Sperka, Pat Quinn, Steve Reynolds and Stuart Kahn.

Also recognized with gift cards and thank you's were the members of the 2021 and 2022 Head Coach Search Committees, as well as the 2022 Coaching Corp staff who led the club for the 10 months prior to the hiring of Matt Zachan.

The winners of this year's top awards are:

Pat Quinn, Lillian Rowan award for 65+ Member of the Year

Ximena Bustamante, Scott Allison award for 64- Member of the Year

Amy Rieger, Lucille Barry award for Female Swimmer of the Year

Brad Winsor, Steve Carlson award for Male Swimmer of the Year

Head Coach's Message

I'm excited to be back on deck coaching again this week! Thank you for all your patience and understanding while I was out sick. Please make sure you give a big thank you to our amazing coaching staff for keeping the team running in my absence. In my time out, there were zero workouts canceled! This is no easy feat considering we run 48 workouts per week.

Moving on to better and more exciting things…

Holiday Party

Thank you to everyone who attended the holiday party. We had a great event and I feel lucky to be a part of this amazing community.

Congratulations to our award winners: Amy Rieger (Lucille Berry Award), Brad Winsor (Steve Carlson Award), Ximena Bustamente (Scott Allison Award), and Pat Quinn (Lillian Rowan Award).

Congratulations to our Grand Prix Champions:

Vivian Crow, Deanna Johnson, Katy Lantz, Michelle Goldberg, Leslie Westergaard, Kathy Gill, Jane Russell, Kim Elsbach, Helene Nehrebecki, and Jennifer Phalen

If you earned an award but were unable to attend the party, please come by the office and pick it up! Here is the complete list of Grand Prix award winners.

Reading the Pace Clock

Over the last few months I have noticed that there is some confusion about how to use the pace clock correctly during the workout. To address this, the staff and I put together a little video on the basics. This is a great reference if you are new to swimming or just need a little refresher. Check it out and let me know what you think. Click HERE to view the video.

USMS Registration Renewal

Its time for all DAM swimmers to renew their USMS registration!

Everyone who swims with DAM must maintain current registration with USMS. The USMS provides liability insurance for DAM and its coaches, and DAM requires that all participants in our workouts, weekend lap swims, and competitions are registered.

After January 1, swimmers who have not renewed their USMS registration will not be able to swim!

The USMS offers a "Standard USMS Membership" - this is what DAM requires. The "full access membership" is not required, but it will also satisfy DAM's requirement.

Visiting Swimmer Reminder

With the holidays upon us, and the opportunity for visiting friends and family to swim with DAM increases, please remember our club policy for drop-in swimmers.

All visitors must be current USMS members and pay a one-swim fee of $10 or $20 for a week of swimming.

If the lanes are crowded, DAM members always have swim priority over visitors.

Thank you in advance for your understanding and cooperation.
