DAM Has A New Interim Coach!

Big changes are coming to DAM! Starting this week, we are excited to welcome Steve Clossick as he begins his role as DAM's new interim Lead Coach/Program Manager. He has a large amount of experience working with all levels of swimmers from age group to Masters, from novices to Olympians, directing swim programs and managing aquatic facilities. Steve is also a former professor, school principal, and local business owner here in Davis. If you see him on deck, please give him a DAM warm welcome to our club!

Swimmers Needed for Weekend Training Clinic

DAM will be holding a coach training/swim clinic at Civic Pool this coming Saturday afternoon (9/11, exact time TBD) where our full coaching staff will get the chance to work on deck together at the same time and learn from our new lead coach, Steve Clossick, and each other. This will involve 2 separate 1-hr workouts with 8-16 DAM swimmers invited to swim at each session. It is designed to give Steve a chance to put his workout plans into practice, get all coaches on the same page with regards to working the deck, emphasizing workout focuses, communicating with swimmers, observing, and providing one-on-one stroke feedback, getting all coaches speaking with one unified voice, etc. Feedback from the swimmers in attendance will play a very important role in the program development process. And it’ll be a great opportunity to get a ton of individualized feedback! If you would like to swim at one of these workouts, please contact Kevin Waterson at president@damfast.org. The goal is to have a diverse group of swimmers that are representative of the full DAM membership.

Emergency at 6AM Workout

On Friday at the 6am workout, Edie Schwartz was removed from the pool with stroke like symptoms after her lane-mate noticed her suddenly slowing down and quickly intervened. She was taken to the ER at Sutter Davis and then transferred to Sutter Sacramento. She is there now in critical but stable condition. Those who know Edie realize how important swimming is to her. Second only to her DAM friends. If you wish to reach out to the family, her son Steven asks you do so through him. His email is steevnaz@gmail.com.

DAM Air Quality Policy

In last week's email, I wrote an incomplete message about DAM's policy on cancellations due to poor air quality. DAM currently follows rules outlined here on our website. We are doing our best to adhere to this policy!
