DAM Member Scott Allison passes away

Scott Allison passed away Sunday morning. His brother Eric posted this message:

We realize that so many of you have clicking on, holding your breath. I hate to keep people waiting. I realize that 8:50 this morning wasn’t a long time ago, but it feels to us like forever.
Your relative, friend, your loved one Scott is no longer in pain. He went with you in his overfilled heart, being carried off by love and comfort.
Thank you. Thank you for telling us of his life. Thank you for caring so intensely. Thank you for everything.

Editor's note: Scott was a tireless contributor to DAM. He edited this Monday Message, cajoled coaches and board members for their portions of each week's message, often working late at night, or rising early in the morning to finish off a message for the membership. He was instrumental during our COVID-era scheduling, carefully writing and sending the countless emails to you all, and meticulously routing the many responses and questions that arose. He has served on the Board of Directors, maintained the website,  and operated the webmaster email account for years. Even after Scott first shared with me the news of his cancer diagnosis, and even after his first round of chemotherapy, he continued to contribute his time and effort. I took control of the webmaster email account, only to discover that Scott still had a way to get and respond to the emails. He has done all of this (and more, believe me) without fanfare, behind the scenes. Scott cared very deeply about DAM and about all of us. Rest in peace, friend, no more emails:)

Nomination Period Now Open: Serve DAM by becoming a member of the Board of Directors - Application Deadline Oct 29

The board of directors will be holding elections beginning on November 10 for 3 open positions. Directors work on a wide variety of tasks and are responsible for administering DAM’s bylaws, polices, and procedures; attending and contributing to monthly board meetings; providing guidance and oversight of DAM’s operating budget; serving on committees; and representing the best interests of the organization. Terms are 2 years in duration. All directors must be DAM members in good standing.

If you wish to nominate a teammate, please speak with that person and ensure that they are willing to serve. You also may nominate yourself. If necessary, the board of directors will prepare the final slate of candidates.

Please submit a one paragraph statement of interest to the DAM registrar (registrar@damfast.org) no later than Friday, October 29. Questions? Contact a board member, the board president, or the DAM registrar.

13th Annual Ross Yancher Brute Squad & Brute Squad Lite

Just a little reminder the Brute Squad will run from November 1 - December 31. That means your first chance to swim the Brute Squad is three weeks from today! (It also means you can still put it off for weeks. Don't worry, we'll keep reminding you.)  Over the next weeks we will be providing more information on the event, how we will integrate Brute Squadders into our practices, and we'll unveil this year's distinctive Brute Squad logo and swag options.

Review: The Brute Squad is a simple event:
  1. Start the time clock
  2. Swim a 200 fly, a 400 IM, and a 1650 free (100 fly, 200 IM, 500 free for the "Lite" event)
  3. Stop the clock
New for BS in 2021: The Brute Squad Non-Competition Category. Any USMS registered swimmer athlete who needs or wants to use swim gear may swim the event and enter this special, inclusive category of the Brute Squad or Brute Squad Lite.

Also new for BS in 2021: Swim your Brute Squad event in Honor of someone... and commemorate your achievement and the name of your Honoree - on your Brute Squad gear! More details to follow.
